Installation is a major part of electrical work required to be done by an electrician. For installation purpose various tools are required like hammers, saws, screw drivers, pliers etc. However, there are some tools that an electrician could require anytime such as lineman’s pliers. Let us now talk about all the tools required for installation.

Pliers are the basic tool for one who works with electrical systems that needs constant bending, twisting, pulling and cutting wires. To prevent the danger of electrical shock from live wires, pliers with insulated handles should be used. This reduces the danger of getting shock.

Linemen’s pliers are designed to grip, twist and cut wires. They can be used to hammer small nails or wire staples. A good pair of pliers have a rivet near the central joint, which allows the jaws to open wider and to give more leverage for a cut.

Diagonal cutting pliers, as the name suggest have blades fixed at an angle. Using these pliers copper, iron, brass or aluminum wires can be easily cut. Some good pliers in this category are also able to cut the steel. If you want such pliers then confirm this before purchasing the pliers.

Side cutting pliers are also considered good for cutting through small wires. They are made up of single cutting blade. These pliers are available in different nose shapes like long nose shape, round or curved nose shape. If you will use round nose pliers, you will find the gripping jaws to be very short that helps in bending and twisting of short wires. Unlike round nose cutting pliers, long nose cutting pliers are able to reach up to small areas also.

Wire strippers (cable strippers) look like pliers with small grooves cut into the jaws. These grooves are used to cut through the insulation like pliers with small round around wire and cables, leaving the inner core undamaged. Once the insulation is cut, the wire is pulled through the groove, stripping the insulation neatly off the wire. A crimping tool is used to secure the connection from a cable or wire to its contact. Crimping tools make sure that the wire is properly secured. Modular Plug Tool is an all-in-one tool that cuts, strips, and crimps.

Screwdriver is also a basic requirement of the electricians. They are available in flat and Philips head. Different screw drivers are available in market that can be used with screws having different head size. For prevention from shocks, one should use a screwdriver having insulated handle.

Electrical tape in used to cover connections and wires to avoid electrical shocks. You can get this tape in black and blue color. For making modern electric tapes, plastic vinyl is used.
